Did you rub your hands with glee when you read THAT headline? Like HA! See! Because I’ve seen this article being shared all over SM with the anti-banting group jumping up and down for joy!
But here’s the thing guys…… If you know anything about banting, you’ll realize that the diets compared were a “balanced” diet and a low carb diet, which still advocated 45% of food come from carbs and guess what? That’s NOT banting which makes the results of this study, completely irrelevant to banting.
Banting only allows between 25g & 50g if carbs in a day, not the 500g these “lower” carb diets advocated. The second point is that the participants in the study, both those following a “balanced” diet and those following the lower carb diet were on calorie restrictions. Banting DOES NOT restrict calories.
Here is Prof Tim Noakes’s response to the article, I’ll leave it to him to explain why you have to compare apples with apples here and how low carb diets and banting diets are not the same. He also brings up the results of studies done by the British Journal Of Nutrition, where they did actually compare apples with apples ie: a calorie restricted “balanced” diet versus and ACTUAL banting diet and guess which one came out tops in the results? Banting of course!Food24
Once again, the anti banters prove they have no idea what banting actually is.
