Barni making lunch box fun

Sponsored

It seems like just yesterday, we were sighing in relief at the end of another school year, reading over school reports, deleting ourselves from class whatsapp groups, packing away lunchboxes and getting a sense of freedom… a whole month off show and tell, a whole month of wracking our brains over what to pack for school lunches.

And now here we sit… labeling stationary, covering books and preparing for another whole year of packing school lunches!

School lunches! Ugh! The bain of my existence! I have one fussy eater and one healthy eater. I have one meat eater and one fruit and vegetable eater and mostly making school lunches is like an exercise in futility…. because at least one of my kids comes home from school each day with a practically untouched lunch. A lunch that I spent the previous evening lovingly, although begrudgingly, preparing. Food and effort just tossed away.

Ava is far more of a grazer than an eater, she likes snacky type foods that she can nibble on, she does not like to sit down for a meal, so I came up with some of these more snack type lunch box ideas for her:

Barni Lunch Box

Thankfully, Hannah is a great eater and she enjoys her food and a proper meal, so packing lunch boxes for her is so much easier. Lots of fruit, a roll or sandwich and she’s good to go.

This year, I’ve decided to try and be a bit more creative!

Who am I kidding, I’m not creative! So I took to Pinterest to come up with some lunch box inspiration and check out this amazing board I’ve created with loads of cool, quick, easy and healthy lunch ideas for my girls:

Follow Sharon’s board School Lunch Ideas on Pinterest.

Also…. brace yourselves…. aside from the standard school lunches, we also have Valentines day school picnics and the like to prepare for. Here is my inspiration for Valentines Day picnics at school. Don’t laugh… Valentines day is just a few weeks away!

Follow Sharon’s board Valentines Day Picnic Lunch Box Ideas on Pinterest.

There are certain standards that appear in my kids lunch boxes almost daily… I tried to include all the food groups and a little treat too. So there’s fruit and yoghurt, eggs and salami sticks and then of course…. BARNI! He’s become a firm favorite in our household since launching here last year.

Barni Wrapper Open 3D

Barni is a delicious playful bear shaped sponge cake with a yummy hidden chocolate centre, providing a little discovery in every bite.

You’ll find them in the biscuit isle at your local super market, I’ve found them everywhere, even at our tiny little local Pick ‘n Pay.

Oh how cool! We also battle with Nate’s school lunches. What’s a favourite one day is out the next – and like you say, nothing more defeating than being returned a full lunchbox that you’ve lovingly prepared. One healthy snack that he’s recently discovered that he likes are peanuts in the shell! So funny, but he loves to pick off the shells and eat the nuts inside. I don’t know if your girls would fancy? It’s one of their favorite treats, but I have to keep that for at home because both of them attend schools that are nut free zones due to allergies.

Luckily my kids have been fed at school up until now so I’m a real ‘school lunch novice’. I’d probably include a sandwich & banana.

K gets lunch at school, so that’s one less thing for me to worry about. That said when it comes to time for us to pack them, it’ll be banana, apple, cherry tomatoes, cheese cubes, cucumber sticks and some nachos – he eats a lot.

I am lucky, Emma’s school provides lunch, I just have to send a snack every day, which is usually yogurt or fruit.

Axl isn’t at school yet but I tend to struggle with lunches regardless. He is a big fan of yogurt, slices of cheese, shaved ham, apples, peanuts and raisins and rice cakes with him sneaking in a Barni every now and then. He really likes things that he can break up into smaller pieces before eating.

I have two fussy eaters too (5 and 4). One day bread is good enough, and the next I get told in no uncertain terms that bread will be fed to the birds! So most of the time its made up of some biscuits, salticrax with cheese, a fruit roll or gemz (they still think these are sweets and not dried fruit), banana or grapes, a small drinking yoghurt and some days some chips or popcorn.
