Bright Side….. Gave Me All The Tears

I absolutely love a book that gives me all the feels. That sweeps me away on an emotional rollercoaster. That demands a box of tissues with snot and tears at the end.

Bright Side by Kim Holden Is This Book

Oh my gosh, you guys, I cried my eyes out during this book. This book wrecked me!

Secrets.
Everyone has one.
Some are bigger than others.
And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you.

Kate Sedgwick’s life has been anything but typical. She’s endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all she remains happy and optimistic (there’s a reason her best friend Gus calls her Bright Side). Kate is strong-willed, funny, smart, and musically gifted. She’s also never believed in love. So when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall in love with Keller Banks.

They both feel it.
But they each have a reason to fight it.
They each have a secret.

And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you.

This is an angst filled read. But then, I love angst. I love to get the feels. After reading all the reviews on this book and seeing it pop up repeatedly in my Good Reads recommendations, I decided to give it a go and I am so glad I did.

Do Epic!

The book was slow to get into and honestly, it’s the last half of the book that makes the story so incredible. Initially I found Kate’s unicorn and rainbows point of view almost annoying. Almost. But then I started to pick up the clues in the story that made me realize, there was more going on than I had initially realized.

Dude!

I can’t even. That last half of the book had me in tears. My heart hurt. And I fell 100% in love with Kate. Her strength of character, her kindness and consideration, the selflessness that she showed to the people she loved, was touching.

DUDES….

I loved both Keller & Gus. In the end, my heart broke for Keller because of his utter devastation and my heart broke for Gus because….. he never got his opportunity.

This was a hard review to write, because I don’t want to give the story away. But I will say, I think this book would make an amazing movie. It’s not the most original story line, but it did move me, wreck me and emotionally touch me. It also made me think about some of the darker and harsher life lessons we all have to learn.
