Never in my life has a
diet lifestyle worked this well for me. It’s become a completely natural way for us and I honestly don’t ever see myself reverting back to the traditional and rapidly being debunked food pyramid or “balanced diet” that was systematically making me fat and even more importantly, making me sick (irritable bowel syndrome, insulin resistance, high blood pressure etc). I didn’t realize just how sick I was, how many symptoms I was dealing with on a daily basis, that I thought were “normal” until I eliminated all the unhealthy carbs and low fat shit & sugar from my diet.

It’s a pet peeve of mine when I see South African’s referring to LCHF at the Prof. Time Noakes diet because really that is not the truth. Yes Prof. Noakes is heading up the paradigm shift here in South Africa, but this is NOT his diet. LCHF has been used for more than a century to successfully treat obesity and diabetes, prior the invention of insulin medication.
Another bug bear of mine is when so called “experts” claim that LCHF is unhealthy or could kill you and then go on to discuss a high protein diet. Guys, LCHF is NOT a high protein diet. It is also NOT a carb free diet. It does contain carbs, but good carbs that come from milk and cheese and cream and cauliflower and nuts etc etc etc. If you’re “banting” or following LCHF for weight loss, then ideally you want to keep your carb count low, under 50g’s per day, and, if you’re as sensitive to carbs as I am (and most people with Insulin Resistance & Diabetes) then you want to keep that count even lower, I try to keep count daily at around 25g’s. If you’re not over weight and are following LCHF for healthy living, then you can increase your carb count to around 100g’s per day and include more root veggies like carrots, sweet potatoes etc, into your daily diet.

I am eating a fabulous diet of nutritionally rich foods, all home made so I know what is going into them. None of those hidden sugars, disguised as another name and chemicals and crap in our diets and we are all feeling the benefits of it. Start reading your food labels, you may be horrified as to what goes into some of the foods we eat, sugar has over 50 different names, cleverly used to disguise added sugars into low fat products etc.
Am I passionate about LCHF? You bet I am. When I think of the thousands and thousands of rands I’ve stupidly spent on pills, shakes, dietitian’s, fads and other miracle, “natural” and “healthy” cures for obesity, I am livid and I feel ripped off.
