Kooki About Khoki

Two weeks ago Walter scheduled to be away for the entire weekend working on a group assignment for his masters degree. We had no plans for the weekend and the weather forecast was foreboding. Cold and rainy. Not ideal for keeping a boisterous toddler busy and entertained indoors for two solid days. Too say I was a little scared is an understatement.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses as parents and Walter and I are the perfect ying/yang when it comes to parenting Ava. I am the organizer, the nurturer, the care taker, those are my strong points. But my weak point is play time. I’m just not very good at it, I feel uninspired and anxious when it comes to thinking up games to keep Ava entertained. Thankfully, this is Walter’s strong point. He is excellent at playing games with Ava, so we are perfectly balanced.

Only problem… on this particularly cold and dreary weekend, he would be away which meant that the playing & entertaining would be left up to me and I was a little scared… Ok, a lot scared!

Then I had a brainwave and headed to Khoki for some supplies for the weekend.

If you’ve never visited a Khoki store, I’d highly recommend it, its now become my go to store when looking for entertainment idea’s for Ava and for buying birthday presents. They have a fantastic selection of books, stationary, educational toys and age appropriate crafts for kids.

That weekend that I had worried about keeping Ava entertained turned out to be fantastic. We finger painted, we did stamp art, we did beading, we did glueing and sticking, we read books and we completed puzzles (very proud, Ava can now complete a 30 piece puzzle without almost any assistance), all bought at very reasonably prices from our local Khoki store.  If you’re a scapbooker, they also have a great selection of scrapbooking stock too.

So the next time you’re looking for something crafty and fun to do with your kids or a kiddies birthday present, I’d highly recommend that you head on over to your local Khoki store to see the great selection of interesting and unusual goodies they have on offer!

I *heart* khoki very much! Wonderful store, for all the abovementioned reasons. I’m like you, not very good at the “play” time, so I also need a lot of these kinds of things to keep me sane 🙂

Oooh I LOVE Khoki – did you know that there is one in Canal Walk now? I also have to work hard to be the player and luckily Lance is FANTASTIC at that. I’d rather just read with them.
