Begun with me launching myself out of bed and chasing two naughty Chihuahua’s down the passage in the dark at 5am! Not the best start! But it did get a whole lot better from there.
The morning was a mad dash as we had to attend the 8am church service as we had a meeting with our pastor directly there after to go over the details of Ava’s dedication scheduled for next weekend. But Walter kindly saw to Ava so that I could get ready and even manage a bit of make up for the day.
He bought me a lovely card, with an IOU inside it. Pretty much I’m still on maternity leave salary till the end of this month when I get full salary again. So between that and the rather OTT dedication we have planned for next weekend, things are somewhat tight. However, he is insistent (yay) on buying me a Bacio bracelet to match the one we’ve purchased for Ava for her dedication for my first Mother’s day gift.
We went to my favorite restaurant for lunch…. Toadbury Hall. Its a beautiful 5 Star Country Hotel and the food is delish! We had a hot prawn and crab salad starter, lamb loin as mains and there was a dessert trolley full of mini tartlets. Here are a couple of shots from our lunch:
I also received many many touching messages from my IF sisters wishing me a happy mothers day, and not just from the ones who’re now mommy’s. I was especially touched my the loving messages from those of you still battling through and who would have found today very painful.
My parents also phoned me early this morning, a little family tradition, whenever its my birthday they phone and sing happy birthday, well today my mom and dad phoned and shouted happy 1st mothers day on the phone to me. My mom also sent my a mother’s day card from Ava. So very very special.
But probably the most special of all is the beautiful message I received from Ava’s tummy mummy. It read:
Dearest Sharon, God created you for a very special purpose and that was to share your wisdom, love and care with “our” daughter. Proverb 31 comes to mind today and I hope that you will find strength, wisdom and pride in these words. Thinking of the wonderful day that you and Ava will have today and hope that Walter will spoil you for the duty you fulfill. All my love and best wishes, your Tummy Mummy. Kisses to the little princess.
I immediately started to cry and then went and read up on Proverbs 31:
The Woman Who Fears the Lord
10 An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
11 The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool and flax,
and works with willing hands.
14 She is like the ships of the merchant;
she brings her food from afar.
15 She rises while it is yet night
and provides food for her household
and portions for her maidens.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
17 She dresses herself with strength
and makes her arms strong.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night.
19 She puts her hands to the distaff,
and her hands hold the spindle.
20 She opens her hand to the poor
and reaches out her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,
for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes bed coverings for herself;
her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates
when he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them;
she delivers sashes to the merchant.
25 Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
27 She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,
and let her works praise her in the gates.
It has been a strangely emotional day for me today. I’ve swung between such joy at finally having the privilege of calling myself a mother, of sadness because I remember how painful this day is for many, especially those close to me and sadness for Ava’s tummy mummy and how difficult today must have been for her.
But all in all, it was a beautiful, perfect, wonderful 1st mothers day and I feel totally blessed.
