On Babies Bottles & Being Pedantic

They say opposites attract and I’d say they, whoever they are, would be right. Certainly if I take Walter and I as an example…. we are as opposite as they come. As the years together have matured us, we have remained polar opposites, but seemed to have switched sides of the scale. Walter used to be a very easy going oke and I was very type A. Then along came our infertility and it seems to have kicked the Type A’ness right out of me, I had little to no control over our infertility, it didn’t matter how hard I tried to control it, it always controlled me and in the end I learned to submit and to let go, while parenting seems to have kicked Walter into high gear Type A.

The result…. I have become very easy going. I’m not a perfectionist at all, I go with the flow fairly easily and I don’t sweat the small stuff, the devil is in the details and I refuse to pay attention to the devil. Walter on the other hand has become highly pedantic, he knows it, he claims it but when he is in the throws of a tantrum over something I view as highly inconsequential, he will refuse to admit it.

For example…………

Hannahs Bottles

See those babies bottles? Tell me what you see?

I see 3 babies bottles, washed, sterilized and prepared with cooled, boiled water, ready for the day’s feeds. Perfect right?

Not according to Walter. He see’s 3 babies bottles prepared in the laziest manner possible because only the middle bottle has all matching bits. The other two bottles have their pink and purple bits muddled up and this drives him to the point of insanity. I’m talking about huffing and puffing and foot stomping. I’m talking about declarations of laziness. Want to put Walter in a bad mood? Mix up the baby bottles!

This has been an ongoing bone of contention in our home. Something that causes him endless evenings of irritation and frustration and me to sigh and roll my eyes so hard they actually hurt. I don’t see the problem. They’re clean, they’re sterilized, they’re ready for feeds, they’re perfectly functional. That, according to Walter, is not the issue, they were not put back correctly according to him.

So dear interwebs, as an interesting exercise in pedantic analysim, please share your thoughts on the bottles as seen above?

It took forever for me to understand what the problem was. They look perfect to me. Walter will be happy he doesn’t live in my house – I don’t put the toilet roll on the holder. Ever. Whats the point when a day later it goes in the bin!!!

You are killing me!!! I will be the one laying awake tonight thinking about your “unmatched” bottles. Oh man, sorry, but I am with your hubby!

I must admit that it grinds my ass when we come to the end of the bottles and our Nanny has used the wrong coloured bit with one of them, leaving me to feed our boy with a mismatched bottle! Normally I am very easy going and lazy but that does get to me…

Sharon, I do love what you have done with the bottles, pink and purple do match and its all pretty, but unless the bottle came like that I would just not cope. My OCD is on a whole other level. I may have kind of smashed my computer screen trying to correct your creativeness….. So I have to side with Walter here…..

Hmmmm, it took me a few minutes to notice what you were talking about so it obviously didn’t and doesn’t bother me. All I noticed is the cap on the left bottle being skewed and very colorful bottles which would never be my choice. (If I lived in your house I would slowly and gradually introduce plain feeding bottles – he he he he he he ) I’m all for clean lines and my baby’s bottles reflect that 🙂 call me boring

I am with Sharon on this one. Life is too short to worry about the small things. I am one of those Moms who is rather disorganised – having said that my Hubby wouldn’t even notice the bottles. Too many other things to do than worry about mismatched bottles.

I’m with you Sharon to be honest I have enough to worry about as long as baby is happy and fed it doesn’t matter how. But I do live with an OCD person and I have finally resorted to if I don’t do it correctly then you’re welcome to do it yourself. And I have given up worrying if its good enough.

Don’t even know how to vote here, part of me really knows it doesn’t matter, while the other part is saying fix the colours and the water levels!! However I am just realising lately that I have to learn to let a lot of stuff go. I am quite amazed thought that so many of us are bothered by this.

The part that bothers me the most is probably that I didn’t even notice it! And normally, I definitely would. Then I would go and watch TV for a bit until I just simply couldn’t anymore. While nobody was watching, I would have to quickly make it right, perfectly, absolutely, 100% right. But it would be sneaky, and I wouldn’t admit it to anyone or let anyone see me do it….
