Remember when you were a kid and pretended that your toy cars came to life, zooming around your living room on the most epic racetracks of your imagination?” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “Well, we are about to bring that fantasy one step closer to life with Skylanders SuperChargers. We are re-imagining toys-to-life by bringing race cars to life, along with helicopters, motorcycles, jet planes and submarines, as you race through Skylands and compete against other players for the first time. Our fans are going to love playing this game. I know I do.
It’s October, we’re all thinking about what to do with our kids over the long holidays, nevermind what to get them for Christmas and once again Skylanders SuperChargers will save the day, releasing in SA late in September and just time time for Christmas!
We (all of us, but mostly Ava) have been big fans of the Skylanders franchise for quite sometime, having built up our collection from the very beginning…. Skylanders Adventures, Skylanders Giants, Skylanders Swap Force, Skylanders Trap Team and now, Skylanders SuperChargers, dare I say, the best one in the franchise so far.
Quite simply, with the new Skylanders SuperChargers, not only can you bring your toys to life, but your vehicles too! Literally, if you can imagine it, you can do it, take the helm, as your favorite Skylanders character, of powerful, tricked-out land, sea and sky vehicles that are playable in both physical and digital worlds in a high octane action-adventure videogame.
Don’t believe me? Check out the trailer…
The game features a brand-new class of heroes that is distinct with fresh moves, powerful attacks and all-new weapons. SuperChargers also have special in-game abilities that help Portal Masters fight Kaos. Twenty new SuperChargers character toys and 20 new vehicle toys will be available. Right out of the box, the game also features an all-new Racing Mode that blends high-octane, supercharged racing with combat, accentuated by power-ups, boosts, hazards and more.
After playing with SuperChargers over the past couple of weeks, I can honestly say this is the best and most visually beautiful of all the Skylanders games and the vehicles add a whole new level of fun and entertainment to the game play.
I also love the fact that if you have characters from the previous Skylanders franchise, whether it be Adventures, Giants, Swap Force or Trap Team, you can use those characters to play on SuperChargers portal of power too, so it’s fully forward compatible.
The toys are well crafted and I like the new look portal of power too. Ava has been having a blast, she’s a huge Skylanders fan and enjoys playing with both the video game and using the vehicles as standalone toys. The game is designed for 6 year olds & older, but I love the fact that it’s simple enough that Ava, at almost 6, can navigate and play by herself or with her friends and because it’s such a kids orientated game, we can leave them to play unsupervised.
Starter packs are available on PS3, PS4, XBOX360, XBOX One, Wii, WiiU and it will be launching for tablet later in November. The starter pack, which includes the software, portal of power, 2 characters, a vehicle & poster, retail between R799 & R999 depending on the platform you’re buying for and its available at all major retailers as well as online with eTailers.
The vehicles are R249 each and the characters are R199 each. There is also a racing pack available with more packs and additional characters and vehicles to release later in November.
