So…. I had a Brazilian….

Posted in Health & Wellness by

Blowout , not wax, in case that’s where your mind was going. What happens down there won’t be shared on here! 🙂

I’ve often shared my struggle with my hair online. I have longish, thick, wavy hair that often leaves me feeling that I look like Jon Bon Jovi, circa 1990! It’s not a good look!

Or Dee Snider’s little sister.

I’m always a little jelly of women I see with their long, sleek, straight, locks.

My hair is not styled…. it’s tamed. And it’s massively time consuming. It takes 40 minutes to an hour to dry and GHD it and even that is not a guarantee of a good hair day. The slightest wind or moisture and I go back to rocking the bushy locks.

Natural hair…. Don’t (do) care! It’s a very bad hair day!

And really, ain’t no one got time for that.

I know some people will suggest I just cut it short. Well…. bad news, I tried that, and all that short hair meant was that instead of having to style my hair every 3 days and then alternate with up styles, I landed up having to style my hair every single day and again, ain’t no one got time for that! Short hair just makes my hair, well, short. It doesn’t make it more manageable, or easier to style, it’s even more high maintenance for me than the long hair is. At least on a bad hair day with long hair, I can bravely attempt to rock the knot or mom bun.

So about a month ago, I had a Brazilian blow wave…. BEST THING EVER!

I know there has been a lot of noise about the dangers (oooh) of Brazilian Blow Waves but honestly, from the research I’ve done and the discussions I’ve had with my hairdresser, who also happens to be a good friend of mine, it’s all a big hoopla about nothing really. Formaldehyde is used in a bunch of household and beauty products, as well as in vaccines etc etc. So honestly, as a nail polish wearing, beauty junkie, I’m not overly concerned about it, I reckon if I’m going to die from Formaldehyde poisoning I would have done so when my mother had me vaccinated as an infant! 🙂

I am loving mine and wondering why it took me so damn long to get one done considering my on going battle of taming the mane!

I mean just have a look at this. My hair this morning, remember I don’t currently have a hair drier, so I’m amazed that my hair looks like this without being brushed, dried and styled for an hour!

Brazilian HairNo frizz. No unruly waves, kinks and curls. No halo of hair around my head, just smooth, straight hair.

Yes, it’s an expensive treatment, but considering it will last a minimum of 3 months and save me hours weekly, in hair styling, I feel it’s well worth the investment!

The only draw back I can find, aside from the expense (including using the correct aftercare products) is that my hair seems to get oilier faster and my reverse hair washing now doesn’t seem to help the oiliness. But in terms of sleek, easy styled, full bodied, straight hair, it is THE BOMB!

Viva la Brazilian!

I done it a few times before my pregnancies and loved it but was a bit freaked out about all the negative press about it but now I’m over it again. I think I’m going to get it done again!!!
