And yes, we’re a little early, a week shy of Hannah’s 4 month birthday but to be honest, I don’t think she could have held out much longer. It’s generally accepted that while there is no hard and fast rule as to when a baby should start solids, but generally its accepted that the best times are between 4 & 6 months depending on baby’s development. I have a friend who’s baby had GORD and as a result he started on solids when he was 8 weeks old. I have other friends who’s baby’s achieved their physical milestones a little slower and so were fine to wait until 6 months to start solids.
Hannah is hitting her physical milestones fast, faster than average. From 8 weeks old, she was able to sit with minimal support & hold her own head up, she is also rolling over on her own, she also pulls herself into a standing position when I hold her hands & has now started making walking motions with her legs and feet when standing. But in the last couple of weeks I’ve noticed Hannah taking a strong interest in our food. When Ava eats around her, she leans towards the spoon and stares the whole time with drool running out of her mouth. It’s also been near impossible to keep her satisfied on formula alone, she is ALWAYS hungry. And so this past weekend we decided to give her a try with some solids.
It was a huge hit! Hannah loved her porridge! She definitely has the eating down pat and got really angry with me when I took too long to get the food into her mouth. She has since been munching her way through two teaspoons of baby cereal twice a day and at long last, we seem to be able to satisfy her hunger!
Just before I went on maternity leave, I received a package from Ella’s Kitchen at the office and this morning Hannah tried their Pears, which she totally LOVED!
I loved the concept behind Ella’s Kitchen and am thrilled that it is now available locally as well at Baby City, Toys R Us, Clicks and selected Spar’s. Ella’s Kitchen is fully organic, with no added sugar, additives or thickeners, no E numbers or GM, no fancy stuff and nothing artificial. Just yummy organic food for babies and toddlers.
More reasons to love Ella’s Kitchen:
We’ll definitely be trying some more of Ella’s Kitchens goodies as Hannah really did love the pears and it’s so conveniently packaged, especially with us going on holiday in just a couple of weeks time, I reckon this will be the most convenient baby food for travelling!
