Ava is a YouTube addict! And for the longest time now, she’s been telling me about “bum-chins”! How desperately she wants these bun chin thingies for Christmas. It wasn’t until this happened a couple of week’s ago, that I realized she meant Bunchems and NOT bum chins!
Essentially, Bunchems are are little colored plastic balls about the size of a coin that stick to each other. The toy, which is targeted to children ages 4 and up, have spindly legs that can be “squished and connected,” and provide hours of fun, creativity and entertainment, not to mention stimulating fine motor skill development.
Here’s a great video that explains the concept:
Did you see that? Well did you?
As a parent, I bet you honed in like a heat seeking missile on that one section of the advert! Unlike other toys, these are easy to clean up, you simply roll them around, in a giant ball and pack them in a storage container, best of all, if there is a straggler left on the floor, NO ONE is at serious risk of injury, when accidentally stepping on it!
Also, before you all rush to warn me about the whole hair thing……. Let me just say, both Ava and Hannah have been playing with our Bunchems for a month now, and as yet, not one of them has had it stuck in their hair! What’s more, Spin Master, the creators of Bunchems, created this handy video on how to remove Bunchems from hair, especially for the hysteria created on the internet.
So if you or your kid somehow get Bunchems stuck in your hair, here’s how to get them out:
Now that we’ve handled that storm in a teacup…
Bunchems are exclusive to Toy Kingdom in South Africa and there is a large range to choose from, including
The Creation Pack (Treats, Bugs or Pets) which retail for R149,95
The Glow in the Dark Pack (Under the Sea or Dinosaurs) which retail for R299,95
The Mega Pack (which has over 400 pieces for you to use your imagination and create a variety of things) which retails for R499,95.
Each pack comes with the Bunchems balls in various colours, a selection of accessories and instructions on how to create a variety of toys using the pieces. They are aimed at children 4 years and older and potentially adults too because both Walter and I landed up playing and creating with our Bunchems collection.
Here are a few of Ava and Hannah’s creations:
