What’s In A Name?

We had a dog, many years ago, a Jack Russell we called Sparky. He lived up to that name in every way possible. He was… well, very very sparky, naughty, boisterous, a real live wire.

We’ve also had a Rottweiler called Chyna. She was named after the women’s pro-wrestler, Chyna. If you don’t know who Chyna is, you can read here, Chyna (the dog) lived up to that name too. Incredibly strong, incredibly naughty! She could pull entire palm trees out, she destroyed our automated sprinkler system, she pulled the Telkom lines right out the ground!

You’d think we’d learn our lesson… with names and steer clear of the naughty ones, apparently not!

Enter Hannah….. her nickname is Dennis the Menace! She is my wild child. She does things I never imagined a child would do. She does things I never imagined a girl would do. She is naughty and mischievous and always up to something!

Last week, she helped Ava over turn a leather poof in the playroom, unzip it and pull all the stuffing out of it. My lounge look like a blizzard had landed in it. And there was Hannah sitting in the midst of the destruction EATING the Styrofoam balls from inside the poof.  She poo’d Styrofoam for about 3 days after that incident.

She has also systematically stripped the leather off one of our chairs and yesterday…. yesterday I almost put her in a box and dropped her on the side of the highway! She took a toy, hit the wall till she’d chipped a piece of plaster, then proceeded to pull a massive chunk of the wall and …. EAT it!

I’m thinking of changing her name to Angel in the hope that we can curb these destructive and very naughty tendencies. I really just can’t. The worst part is that, even though she refuses to speak, she understands perfectly, so when I asked her if she’d done that, she nodded her head to tell me that yes, it was indeed her!

She’s also very soft hearted, so after I scolded her, she cried for an hour, complete with snot and hiccuping!

So parents to be – be warned, be careful what you name you children! And whatever you do, give up taking pride in your possessions because your children will destroy them!

Hannah’s birth parents chose a birth name for her that means Warrior Princess. This kid…. she’s a warrior that’s for sure! And a real bloody Dennis The Menace! She’s going to be the death of me!

Fysh’s birth name is Noah which means “peaceful wanderer” and so far he kinda sorta lives up to his name, I can see him growing up to be a travelling hippy of sorts. Another old soul

Oh man! This so funny but not funny if you know what I mean? I have no idea what my kids names mean and I think I am going to keep it that way just in case 😉

LOL! My younger son named his hamster Sparky and he has certainly lived up to his name. Sparky is completely psycho and runs on his wheel like a demented creature. The scary thing is that my sons’ hamsters are just like them. My younger son is also my wild child and my older son is much more cautious and anxious. Their hamsters are the same: nervy Rocky and psychotic Sparky. My younger son’s name means ray of light but he’s more like a flash of lightning – sparky! Good luck with your warrior princess!

We gave our son a Bedouin name and by the time he reached the age of 4 he had twice let himself out of our property and wandered off. The 2nd time he was fortunately picked up by strangers who drove with him and rang doorbells until they reached ours. He is now 11 and I have considered strapping a GPS tracking device to him.

How can you accuse Angel , I mean Hannah of doing such things! Ha ha ha ha!!!! Look at that cute face! I can just picture her nodding yes!

And on the subject of dogs my 2 Rottweilers – Nero and Cleo have destroyed everything possible, I miss my German shepherd – Caeser

Haha, I briefly considered giving N a quirky second name like adventure or mischief…then I thought about it and decided it might be a self fullfilling prophesy and stuck to the one name. 😉

And you will love her forever regardless! Awh man, and then she is so cute. Rest assured that at that age every single one of our kids did something similar. L in fact took a plastic toy saw and sawed a chunk into one of our walls – that look rather similar to your chunk in the wall. L certainly lives up to his name – he has the heart of a lion – I think his saving grace in life, C I hope will live up to his and be a follower of Christ and A, well I hope that she will be blessed with grace in her life. She certainly in her bearing in life is already full of grace.
