{WIN} A Copy of Martina Johansson’s Book – Understanding LCHF

Martina Johansson is a Swedish biophysicist, biomedical engineer, fitness athlete and low carb nutrition expert. She therefore brings a wealth of knowledge to this topic that goes way beyond the perfunctory “eat this and not that” which is one of the things I loved about her book, it was so much more than just food lists and gave great practical advice. Martina also makes a very strong case for why the ketogenic diet is far superior for achieving fat loss as well as optimal health.

Martina has been an LCHF convert since 2010. At the time, she was vegetarian and while not struggling with her weight, she did have some health concerns, including fatigue, poor attention span and weak muscles. She, along with so many others of us who have converted to the LCHF (low carb high fat) lifestyle has seen immeasurable improvements in her health and well being since converting to this lifestyle.

But first, here is a bit about the book:

Understanding LCHF

Understanding LCHF  is the key to: *LOSING WEIGHT *LOOKING TERRIFIC *FINDING NEW ENERGY *STAYING HEALTHY OR IMPROVING YOUR HEALTH. The book will give readers the tools to achieve all of this without complicated meal plans and tedious exercise routines. Martina also shares her in-depth knowledge of hormonal responses, as well as the health aspects and benefits of different types of micro- and macronutrients. She even includes a chapter on fitness training and another with relevant recipes.

This book is great for both those new or interested in the LCHF lifestyle as well as those already practicing LCHF because she covers the principles behind LCHF and why and how it works, with a lot of attention given to the impact of insulin on our overall health, weight and well being. For those of who don’t know, I’ve been practicing LCHF for almost 3 years now, with amazing results on both my health and weight and this book gives you a great, simple to follow, yet scientific explanation on why and how LCHF works.

She also covers a section for athletes and how to become fat adapted using fat fasts, a topic many active people and athletes are afraid of because they incorrectly believe they can’t perform at their peak without carbs. Martina will explain to you why you can perform without carbs as well as giving you great examples and tips on how to go about getting fat adapted in the shorted period of time.

The book also covers a really great section on why you may be struggling to lose weight on LCHF or battling to become fat adapted or ketogenic. It’s a mistake a lot of us make in the beginning and I’ve often heard from friends who have tried the lifestyle that they struggled with upset stomach’s or constipation and other ailments while following LCHF. Martina covers why this happens and what you need to do to prevent that from happening.

There are also some food lists in the book to assist the complete newbie get started as well as great exercise programs to assist in weight loss and develop muscle strength and tone. As well as a section covering the dreaded cholesterol debate and the theories behind it and what to look out for when following LCHF.

I really liked this book, I found it informative and a great reminder of topics and aspects of the LCHF lifestyle that I have forgotten about. It’s a great book for newbies interested in living LCHF!

Another lovely prize, I have recently started my LCHF journey, still need to fine tune the application to my lifestyle. Cutting out bread, pasta and potatoes was easy, but thin crust pizza is still a temptation

I briefly tried the LCHF diet, but was concerned as I train a lot and also relied on a lot of info from athletes and trainers alike saying low carbs are bad as you need carbs for muscle building. Would be nice to win this!
