My Wish Shopping Experience

I first heard of the Wish shopping app from friends and then it kept cropping up on my Face Book timeline, as a side note, how does Face book even know that? So I decided to give it a try.

Too good to be true?

Maybe, but that hasn’t stopped me from shopping twice now with them, so here’s my experience:

I decided to place a clothing order first. The prices were really reasonable and the items showcased looked gorgeous. So I figured, why not?

I ordered this:

2017 Fashion New Women and Men Casual Cool Leather Coat for Couple Winter Slim Removable Zippers Hoodies Jacket

I really liked the tailored fit and I’d been looking for a tan jacket for winter. At R272 I figured, why not? It’s not like I was going to get something locally at anywhere near that price.

And then I ordered this:

2016 Women Casual Solid Hoodies Unisex Lapel Hooded Sweatshirts Pullovers Turn-down Collar

It was only R117 and I thought it’s nice and cosy for those freezing winter mornings at the stables.

I placed my order, painlessly on the 17th May and had to wait till the 20th July for delivery.

And so I waited….. and waited….

Tracking my order on the Wish app and hoping the non-existent South African postal service wouldn’t let me down. 3 days after the delivery deadline, I almost fell out my chair when I received an sms notification from the post office notifying me that my parcel had arrived.

After paying the R32 duties at the post office, they handed over my parcel and I raced home to check out my purchases.

Only to discover that only the jacket had arrived.

It doesn’t look quite as nice as the one they used on the app that sold me on the jacket.

I am a little disappointed with it to be honest. Granted at R272 it wasn’t a totally awful buy, but the colour isn’t what I was hoping for and it’s certainly not as fitted or as tailored as it is in the image. I’ve worn it a few times and it is comfortable and does fit, but mostly, it doesn’t give the nice tailored look I was hoping for. Also, one of the little fasteners on the removable hoodie broke off the second time I war it.

So what about my sweater top?

Well I waited another week because I know the postal service is notoriously unreliable. Then I sent a message on the Wish App to their admin team, informing them that it was now two weeks post the scheduled delivery deadline and I had not received my other purchase. I was really impressed with this part of the shopping experience, within 48 hours, they had responded and refunded me, no questions asked.

Fast forward to the 20th August……

A whole month after my second item was scheduled to arrive, for which I’ve received a refund and low and behold….. I get a notification from the post office again to say I have a parcel to collect. This time the duties on the parcel were R67, which I paid and headed home to inspect my sweater top.

This is the picture that sold me on the top:

Not quite the same hey? The top fits. But it’s made from horrid, shiny materiel and it’s much shorter that it looked in the image. Which is really disappointing for me. I am still wearing it, for horse riding and it’s ok. It’s not completely horrid. It’s just ….. Ok. And given that in the end, I got it for free, who am I to really complain right?

And because I don’t learn a lesson….

I’ve placed yet another order with Wish and will be receiving those goodies later this month, here’s what I’ve ordered:

New Women Irregular Hem Chiffon Casual Tops Blouse Shirt Pleated Oversize

I only paid R104, but I REALLY love this top, so I hope it doesn’t disappoint!

2017 Summer Casual Women Flower Print Short Sleeve Maxi Dress Beach Party Evening Prom Long Dresses Women Vestido De Festa

I am completely in love with this dress and at only R117, I couldn’t resist it. But again….. as I’m learning, goed koop is duur koop. I hope I’m not going to be disappointed.

Scrubbing Pad Makeup Brush to Clean Pad Cleaning Plate Beauty Makeup Tools

I bought this for R13 and I can’t wait to try it out on my oval make up brushes. Because oval make up brushes have such densely packed bristles, they are notoriously difficult to clean. So I figured at R13, I’d buy one and give it a go, I’ll def let you guys know how that works out.

HOT Eyebrow Template Stamp Sponge Stencils Eye Makeup Natural Brow Type Seal

Everyone wants brows on fleek right? And I keep seeing ads for these types of kits with rave reviews. Again, I only paid R13 for this brow stamping kit and I will DEFINITELY film a reveal video for this one, letting you guys know how it worked out.

Have you shopped on Wish? What was your experience like? Were you happy with your purchases?

I am a self confessed shopaholic so I must confess, even though my two items received so far, have not lived up to the images used to sell the products, I am having a hard time resisting all that is available on the app.

Worst shopping experience ever! Three of 6 items have not arrived (due 2 months ago). And of the 3 items I did receive, not one is the quality shown in the pic on the app. All cheap knock offs. Would not wear any of them. Every item arrives separately so you have to go to the post office and pay duties each time something arrives.

Have you asked for a refund for the ones that haven’t arrived? They are very good about refunding the money

3 Kids, 2 Dogs and 1 Old House honestly couldn’t be bothered. Deleted the app and putting it down to school fees

I’ve never tried to buy clothing on Wish, but for random accessories or makeup brushes, they’ve been fine. I also had an issue once where I expected 10 brushes and got 5, got refunded immediately. So the customer service is really good.

Pity about your items, but at least they weren’t horrid as you say.

Cindy from 3 kids bought the same dress and posted about it on her blog if you want a sneak peek of what the dress looks like. It’s really pretty…maybe I should go look for some clothes on Wish. The top you’ve chosen is stunning as well. Fingers crossed this time!

I haven’t shopped on wish app but aliexpress. I don’t pay customs with aliexpress though I’ve been buying for a year off Alliexpress and never had customs charges it’s pretty much the same stuff as Alliexpress stuff. Only thing is I wait 2 to 3 months to get the goods.

Hi there, my daughter purchased a tracksuit for me on Wish, she waited close to 2 months for delivery and also had to pay a handling fee at the post office, the tracksuit looked damn awesome on the ad but when I tried it on it was too short, eventhough we ordered a bigger size than what I actually am, I on the other had ordered a sweatshirt, it somehow “got lost” during shipping but I was reimbursed, I also ordered a fidget spinner for my son, it looked nothing like in the picture, now, can I please say something about the quality of the “OPI” nailpolish…it is the worst ever, then after I received it i did a bit of reserach and discovered that their OPI nailpolish was infact fake, it stays on for 1 day max and then it peels off, regardless of how many coats you apply and how much you prep your nails and how many top coats you apply, I am done.

I ordered and after a longer delivery date than expected I eventually cancelled my order. Was refunded in super quick time. My colleague had to pay for every item she collected from SAPO and they weren’t exactly small amounts. Not a win imo.

so glad you’ve written this post cause my son has been on about it for months now and I wasn’t sure of the sites legitimacy. Apparently ‘all’ the kids at his school buy off Wish. I didn’t realise kids were so patient when it suited them! I’m an instant-gratification online shopper and anything more than 3 days is outrageous to me!

Wow – I’m impressed at your dedication to buying on the same website!!! Hahaha. Sorry that you weren’t impressed and that the standards weren’t great. This has been a worry of mine too, hence the reason I haven’t bought anything from Wish myself. I saw Cindy Alfino bought that same maxi-dress that you put a pic of and the fit on her was really awesome so I may just wait for your feedback before I actually buy it myself. My husband has bought lots of things from Wish though. He recently received a tracksuit that he bought and it’s really great. Awesome quality and a great fit. The other things have been mostly for the inside of his car (don’t ask!) and he’s been happy so I guess other than the extremely long wait (I would just DIE!!!), it seems like we will (or HE will) continue to buy off the website.

My husband has bought tons of stuff…. the more you purchase the cheaper things become on the site too. So most of the stuff he purchases is free and you pay the R25 odd shipping. We also buy small things so that they literally get delivered to your postbox. He’s bought tools and gadgets but I also got that sticky strapless bra thing which is amazing. Also – a lot of it we haven’t paid a cent for as it was late so we got refunded and it arrived a week later. We’ve bought little baking moulds for the kids and a fitness watch with all the fancy features which I was quite happy with. Not sure if I’d purchase clothing at all – I battle ordering online here in South Africa even.

I have bought quite a bit of stuff from wish. I have been happy with 90% of the purchases. Some of the goodies I am really, happy with and others not.

I haven’t had to pay any fees at the post office though – And I have bought ALOT!!

Ordered a couple of things, mostly stationary and life jackets for my dogs. About half the things I ordered never arrived (including the life jackets which I really wanted), but they refunded me pretty much instantly after I logged a complaint. I’m hoping that they eventually make their way through our grossly incompetent postal system eventually.
Also, how the hell do you get your PO to sms you? Ours doesn’t even give slips half the time.

My DIL loves Wish I am more of a Poshmark girl but that’s gently used second hand consignment and probably not available at home. Let me know about the other items you bought, I was going to buy some stuff off of Wish that I saw but I am not sure I want to now.

I have ordered and paid for a few stuff, keeping my fingers crossed until and if they arrive. I’m not that brave to buy clothing. I have a few stuff in my basket that I’m hoping to purchase soon.

I have ordered a garmin watch strap from them which was due on 1 Sep. Tracking shows it has arrived in SA but still waiting for notification so can’t comment. Really hope it arrives soon and works as my current watch strap is being held together by tape in 2 places.

I’ve come across the ads and have seen so much of comments, sometimes positive and many negative. It’s nice to see feedback from someone familiar even though it’s just online…thank you for sharing and I hope your latest orders will make you smile!

Very disappointed, I ordered a few items on the Wish app! I waited about 8 wks as expected what I did not expect is to have to pay over R150 per item import duties at SAPO. All four clothing items were really cheap , low quality fabric , the sizes were very small and did not look at all like the quality on the photos ! I never even fetched the last two items at the post office ! Will never order from them again.

I use Wish regularly, granted orders only take 3 weeks here sometimes less.

I got the eyebrow stamp set….. I don’t use the stamp part at all but I do use the powder for my brows and it’s devine. Can’t wait to see your reveal on the stamp.

The items I’ve ordered were great and the quality has been great, the only complaint I have, is the damn delivery period, on average 3 months before I can use it/wear it. Not sure if I want to go to the post office every week, stand in long ques and pay duties over and above what I’ve already paid – I think by then the novelties have worn off

Hi All, this chat has been extremely helpful. One thing I am not sure on, when u tack the parcel via the app, it states that it has arrived in the country. It’s been a month and I have received no slip from the post office and I have no idea how to track it internally, using the number from Wish.

I ordered a couple of items off the app and then my credit card got hacked! This was before they thought I was crazy enough to send them a copy of the back and front of my credit card. Needless to say reported it to the bank.
Eventually got my money back but not a great experience. Will definitely not use them again!
