Adoption Profile – Take III

One of the big tasks that Walter and I need to get a handle on in the next couple of week’s is updating our adoption profile.   As some of you may know, the profile we presented for Ava’s placement was hastily thrown together in one, stressful, tantrumy, tearful evening. We did do a second profile when we went through the top up screening with our SW, Wilna, last year. But now we need a third profile to be submitted to Procare and we want to present one now that shows more recent images as the current one shows a lot of photo’s of Ava as a small baby and we’d hate to have potential birth parents put off because Ava seems so young.

I want to keep the structure of our second profile but vibe it up a little, make it a little more interesting and fun. I’m also thinking the colours should be red, white and blue so that it appeals to both girl and boy mommies!

This morning, Bronwyn from Heart & Soul Photography sent me a few more photo’s for us to use in our new profile.

On another note, a huge congrats to Celeste from The Reluctant Mom for winning the Kidz World Mom Blogger, a most deserved winner and to Natasha from Raising Men and Tanya from Rattle and Mum who were the runners up.
And thanks to all of you who nominated and then voted for me!

I know you have done this before so probably dont need any advice. Just make it completely authentically you. If you into pink make it pink. Mine was completely pink and feminine, and thats exactly what our birth mom loved because thats who she was even though she was carrying a boy. The first thing she said I knew when I saw the pink , this was the right profile. A friend of mine did a profile that she thought moms wanted, I did one that was just me. Few weeks later, we were chosen. Just follow your heart and represent your family authentically no matter what you think the birthmom may like.

Also If you look at some of the american profiles (just google them) I love the way the children introduce themself to their potential brothera and sister. Just a thought……..

      Thanks Wynette.
Interestingly, Ava’s BM chose us because of the photo on the front of the cover of our profile! So totally hear you on being yourself. I just want our profile to be more fun as that feels like more of a representation of us.
Really love the idea of a letter from Ava to her new brother or sister!

Loooooove those shots, Shaz!! Especially love the last one of you and Walter – sooo cute! Hope it’s going on a wall in your lovely home??
It’s amazing how much we think and stress about how our profiles should look! I didn’t know it, but at the time, Travers had even googled what colour paper would work best (in terms of easy to read) with black ink… turns out, pale yellow. Who’d’ve thunk it.
I agree with your approach re: red and blue. Ours was black pages and all printing was done on buttercup yellow and the “highlights” and matting was done in kingfisher / turquoise.
    Yours’ll be lovely and vibrant!!!

Shaz – I hope you never stop blogging. I so love cheking in on you and your family. Watching little Ava grow up is just amazing. I look at her and wonder what she is going to do as an adult. She really is just so precious – the photos are amazing. xxx P.S. Good luck with the profile. I know its agonizing! But – you have a way with words and your true selves will come across. We did a 5 things we love about each other..
