Ava’s Thought’s On Hannah

Hannah’s potential placement has been the hardest secret for Walter and I to keep and the person we have struggled to keep it from the most was Ava. Every time we’ve talked about Hannah, either Walter or I has teared up just thinking about her excitement over having her one wish come true, a baby sister. For the longest time, she has been adamant that she would not have a baby brother but that she would have a baby sister, named either Hayley or Zoe.

This weekend we started painting Hannah’s room and it was clear Ava wasn’t buying any of the B.S. stories we were making up as to why we were painting the spare room, so we decided to take another leap of faith and just tell her.

Her reaction was PRICELESS!

First we tried the grown up approach with an explanation, talking to her, about how she’s adopted, how she grew in another mommy’s tummy etc to which she asked if we could go and kick her ball outside. Right abandon that approach.

So then we decided to just go balls to the wall and show her the photo’s of Hannah and tell her that Hannah was going to be her baby sister. To that she screeched: “That’s NOT my baby sister! My baby sister is Zoe!!!!’

Abandon that attempt.

Then Walter came up with the brilliant idea of telling her that we were going to visit Granny and Grandpa so that we could fetch Baby Hannah, to which she responded: “I hope Grandpa hasn’t eaten all my Easter eggs by the time we get there!”

It’s taken her a couple of days to process the information but she is now truly excited. Just this evening she helped us clean her old cot and set it up in Hannah’s room. She has also repeatedly told us she’s going to be an amazing big sister, that she will help to bath and feed Hannah and change her nappies and that she’s going to be the best big sister in the whole world.

It is very cute watching her work through this bit of news and get more and more excited at the prospect of finally having a little sister!

Massive congratulations, only just saw your news. Will keep you all in my prayers that everything goes smoothly. Can’t wait to ‘meet’ Hannah. Still find it surreal that I have an Ava and a Zoe. Sorry just curious (and because I’m obviously biased) why is Hannah not Ava?

Because one of my miscarriages was confirmed a girl and we named her Zoe so that name already belongs to one of our own and I we won’t use it again.

Sorry, didn’t realise. Friends in CT moved back from the UK and had a stillborn Zoe a few weeks after our Zoe was born(while they were still in the UK). Sure it was always hard to see our Zoe,especially as she was the same age. Thinking of you lots and especially excited for Ava. We were in CT now and 2 lots of friends and my brother have all recently had 3rd babies and my cousin her first and my girls were besotted, almost feel bad we’ve decided no more on their behalf.

I gave my baby daughter up for adoption – heartbreaking – and she eventually managed to trace me a few years back – 40 years ago this year. I love to read your blog and am so excited for you all!
