CLAIM – Day 1: The HORROR & The Egg Fast

My bathroom scale hates me! HATES ME!

Potentially, it was just the wake up call of utter shock and horror that I needed to get by fat butt back in gear!

CLAIM – that is my focus word for this year

And it starts today, right now, right this second! I have a plan and I won’t be derailed! I have to do something, I promised myself I would never go back. And I’m not, I won’t. I can’t. Not for the sake of my health, not for the sake of my well being.

So, the plan….

Disclaimer – Before I share my plan, I just want to make it clear to all of you that I am not a nutritionist or doctor and this is in no way meant to be dietary advice to anyone. It is purely based on my own experience after 3 years of following the banting/low carb high fat lifestyle and learning what works for me.

A 4 Day Egg Fast

If you’re following the LCHF lifestyle, then you’ll know that egg fasts are a great way of kick starting weight loss and getting back into fat burning mode or ketosis by eating an extremely low carb, high fat, moderate protein diet for a short period of time

Basically on an egg fast you are consuming eggs, butter (or other pure and healthy fat like olive oil or coconut oil), and cheese, with a few exceptions for low carb condiments like hot sauce, mustard, etc. The egg fast ratio is to eat 1 Tbsp fat for each egg consumed and up to 1 oz cheese for each egg consumed.

So I started this morning with scrambled eggs made with cream and cheese. I have boiled eggs and may for lunch and I’ll be eating a 3 cheese omelette for supper. Rinse & repeat for 4 days and I’m hoping to shed in the region of 4kg’s by Saturday morning when I break the egg fast.

But… No WINE!

Gah! I’ll let you know how that goes.

Same here! Sunday morning (luckily with no hangover and plans for the day) I faced off with the scale. No words for the horror! It wasn’t even a case of I won’t go back – I am virtually back where I started.

Anyways, I am three days in and completely sugar free – aside from some veggies with my suppers. Not even a coke light to appease the fizzy sweet cravings.

I know people don’t recommend weighing daily, but I am doing just that for the moment. I need that nasty number to remind me to stay accountable and maintain my “focus” – which us my word for the year.

I’ve also packed my running kit in my car for after work today – I am going to test my wonky ankle at RWFL tonight. I’m not terribly confident that I will be pain free, but I won’t know until I try, right?

    Good luck!

Good luck to you too! I don’t care what people say, weighing myself daily has always helped keep me focused and on the straight and narrow so I plan to do the same!

Good luck! I think I should try that too. My scale doesn’t think I gained that much, but I feel like I did. My clothes definitely feel tighter on me. No more wine here either and back on track properly. My next mission is to start training.

At first I thought you were going to tell me you cut out eggs, which I think would be super difficult. but now the thought of eating only eggs for 4 days sounds a bit too much for me too! I am cheering you, because I don’t think I could do it!

If you understood the depth of my terror when I got on the scale this morning, then you’d know that while this will be tough, I am determined to do it. I’m more afraid of going without my trusty glass of wine for four days! Aaaaagggh!

    Hi Sharon.
My first comment (eek) after reading your blog for years. Do I need to be fat adapted first to do the egg fast or can I go straight for it?

YAY! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment!
And no, you can jump right in, the egg fast will make you fat adapted quickly. Good luck!

Day 1 went well. Lots of water. Black bitter coffee and rooibos. Mixed a pinch of curry powder with my Hellmans and made 2 egg salad for lunch.

Well done and good luck! I’m on my last day of the egg fast and I’m down 2.3kg’s. Will be interesting to see what tomorrow’s weigh in is!

Weighing daily also scares me into reality but it screws with my anxiety levels.

I’m thinking of doing the egg fast too since right now I feel like an utter failure with constant stomach ache (like I had when I ate carbs while banting for a long time).

I honestly can’t deal with the stomach ache and my clothes not fitting scenario.

I’m not big on wine but I wish you good luck with that!! x

    Hi Sharon,
Is this for real?? It’s like a dream come true. Luv my eggs to bits!
Question…. how many eggs can one eat a day??
Thinking may be cheaper n easier to just buy a chickenI.e. Reduces the necessity of going to the shops where there are many little gremlins n urchins tempting and enticing one to have ‘just one’. If you eat it quickly it’s like it won’t make much of a difference. Yeah right
Thanx Sharon, will definitely check in here and there.

Yes but just remember this is part of low carb high fat and is ONLY meant to be done for a couple of days. It is not healthy or sustainable over a long period.
