Daddy Was The Poo!

Daddy's Girl!

Walter and Ava share the quintessential Daddy/Daughter bond. When they are together, they are inseparable and in Ava’s mind, if her daddy is around, then mommy is the poo you wipe off the bottom of your shoe on the grass. I am less than zero if  daddy is around. Of course, there’s times when that hurts, just a tiny little bit, when she’ll actively seek Walter out and refuse to give me a cuddle or a kiss. But it does also come with certain benefits too… like when we’re socializing with friends, I get to chill, chat & sip a glass of wine while Walter runs around behind our demanding little Princess as she commands him to “come come come” wherever she goes and when she does sit, the space next to her is patted and “Dada SIT” is commanded.

In the 2 years since her birth, they have never been separated for any extent of time, I have been away from her once for 3 days but Walter has not. This week though Walter was sent to Cape Town on a business trip, he left on Sunday midday and returned last night. Ava has spent every day calling for Dada and Walter. She wanders around the lounge calling Waaalter, Waaaalter, every evening and I’m sure it has been a little confusing for her that he has not been there, despite my best attempts to explain his absence.

Last night he arrived home, shortly after I’d put her in the bath and he got to feel what it was like to be poo on the bottom of her shoe. Instead of the shrieks of joy I think we’d both anticipated, little arms wrapped around his neck and proclamations of “luv u” he got stony silence!

Princess Ava was clearly very cross with her Prince for leaving her with poo for almost 4 days. She refused to look at him or make any eye contact and she wouldn’t speak to him at all. When he tried to kiss and cuddle her he was told NO! NO! NO! In no uncertain terms.

Of course, this morning we have reverted back to our old familiar roles. Daddy is once again the prince and I have been relegated back to being the poo. But I do wonder what the effect his absence had on her and what was going through her little mind in the 4 days he was gone!

I read somehwere that if a parent is not around for a longer period, they actually start to grieve
for that person, as they do not understand the absence.
We alternate being the poo depending on the mood, but when granny and grandpa are there,
not only are we poo, apparently we also cannot be heard anymore. Any instruction or refusal for
biscuits etc coming from us is completely ignored.
    Stunning pictures, really beautiful

We have the same with Kendra – thank goodness I have a boy too otherwise I’d feel very unloved 🙁

There is something so awesome about a father-daughter relationship, makes me a little sad since we are bound to be boy-parents. As least I don’t have the “poo you wipe off the bottom of your shoe on the grass” as you call it experiences 🙂

I still get the “Mommy I hate you” from time to time…
