Dear Mom, I Get It Now!

I remember as a child, sitting in the back of my dad’s car, driving away from our house on the first day back at school after the holidays… my mom standing in the driveway, dressing gown hiked up, arms and legs waving in an action loosely termed a dance, while she sang “back to school, back to school, back to school today!”
It was her tradition, our tradition. Something my mom did every single time we went back to school, after every single holiday, every year that we attended school and as a child, I could never quite understand it. Why was she so happy to have us out of the house and back at school? Why was she so desperate to get rid of us after the holidays?
Oh Mom, I get it now! I understand now.
Both my girls start school on Wednesday and I’m just about ready to start doing my own victory dance after surviving their holiday!
Ava starts Grade R and Hannah starts at playschool 3 days a week. And I just cannot wait.
The fighting, the whining, the teasing, the moaning that has been our constant companion over the past month, the need for constant entertainment and the boredom  of holidays is coming to an end and I cannot! The constant requirement of either Walter or I refereeing the never ending fighting… I can’t… I just can’t take it anymore!

This may look cute, but it is some wrestling complete with whining!

Hannah’s personality has come on in leaps and bounds over the past couple of months and she’s turned into a GIANT tease, giving as good as she gets. The fighting, and by fighting, I mean physical fighting, between my girls has started. There is pushing, shoving, scratching, pinching and screaming. There is also sibling rivalry and jealousy and frankly they’ve both driven Walter and I to the point of insanity these past holidays.
Ava misses the routine of school. She misses her friends and the stimulation of school. Hannah is SO ready to start school! So so ready. She’s bored and getting up to mischief.
So yes, I get my Mom’s utter relief and glee at having us return to school and I think I speak for a large percentage of Mom’s everywhere when I say, on Wednesday, when I drop my kids at school, I’ll be singing “back to school, back to school, you’re all going back to school!” myself!

I feel you!!! I am so happy that school has started. Hoping (and praying) that getting back into our normal routine will turn my little monster into the sweet(er) girl she was before the holidays. Or it may just be that we are over the terrible 2’s and horrible 3’s and now moving into the f-ing 4’s… oh help me! Your girls are gorgeous xx

SO! I am going to break with tradition now for the first time in years. I actually don’t feel like this. Yes I want the kids back at school but mainly for our routine and not because they are driving me mad!! But I am desperate for my routine I won’t lie!
I am enjoying it while it lasts.
