Good News & Bad News

So lets start with the bad news first. Yesterday afternoon I developed horrendous pain, I’m talking about a stomach bloated and hard and looking around 9 months pregnant. I’m talking about being unable to stand up straight, walk or sit, I’m talking about pain so severe that passing urine made me want to faint. At our morning session to chat about our Embryo’s, my RE’s partner felt it necessary to do an abdominal scan on me after I’d decsribed the pain I was in. Unfortunately, I’ve developed Stage 2 OHSS (Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome), both my ovaries are swollen to about 5 times their normal size and their is fluid in my abdominal cavity. I’ve been put on bed rest for the entire week and told I may only get up to use the loo and to drink 4L’s of water a day. Thankfully they’ve also prescribed a safe but stronger pain killer which I’m really  hoping is going to have some impact very soon.  I don’t mean to sound melodramatic, but its the worst pain I’ve experienced in my life.

Now for the good news!!!! 🙂

We sat in Dr V’s office to discuss our embryo’s and I got very nervous when he started off by saying that both he, Dr G and the Lab Tec had reviewed my file this morning as they’re utterly astounded. I was certain,  he was going to give us bad news. Instead he went on to tell us that they had all agreed that it has been a very very long time since they’d last seen so many text book quality embryo’s come from one couple!!!! 🙂 He said they couldn’t understand why the results of my previous IVF had been so poor in comparison to what they’re seeing now. He then showed us what a text book embryo on day 3 should look like. He explained that is should be tighly packed 8 cells and that it should have a shine like a polished diamond.  Then he showed us our babies and I was so proud of what we’ve done. We have 11 8 cell shining like diamonds embryo’s that Dr V says are actually better quality than what they classify as text book. We have one 7 cell embryo which is of a very high quality and 2 x 6 cell embryo’s where the quality is so good they believe they will catch up to the others.

I’m still walking on a cloud, I cannot believe it, in all our previous IVF’s, by day 3 we’ve only had 2 or 3 embryo’s left and never anything of the quality that was good enough for freezing!

So today they’ll be freezing 7 embryo’s and on Tuesday the lab will select the best 2 embryo’s for transfer and the remainder will be frozen as well to be used at a later date.

Now I’m off to start my bed rest……….

My friend, I am just thrilled for you and W 🙂 Excellent news on the embies.

Take it easy and push that water! OHSS sucks! I know how sore it is – but take it really easy and you’ll soon be right as rain.

That’s so awesome!!! OHSS stinks, though. Eat lots of protein and drink lots of water (even though it sounds silly when you’ve got all this fluid in your abdomen). WOOOO GO EMBIES!

That is such excellent news Shaz, I’m so happy for you guys!!

I really think that this will be it for you, sounds amazing!! Sorry about the OHSS, bloody sore isn’t it. I found the only relief I got was when I was lying down, so I did that – ALOT. The 4L of water is a bit of a pain since it hurt when you pee and you need to do that alot when you drinking so much. You have my deepest sympathies on that, really NOT FUN!!

Still rooting for ya sweetie, tomorrow will be a good day 😉

    Big hugs xxx
