Have You Pledged?

Santa ShoeboxThe Santa Shoebox Project opened for pledges on Sunday. This years target is a steep 100 000 boxes and just two days in, there are already over 26 000 pledges.

I made my pledges yesterday but this year, I decided to challenge myself. In previous years, I have always pledged boxes to children of the same gender and age as my own child(ren). So I’ve always done boxes for girls between the ages of 1 – 3 years old.

But I was really saddened to read last year, after I’d finished my pledges, that the children selected last are always teen boys, so this year, I decided to pledge two boxes, one from each of my children, to boys, both of my pledges are age 17.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what to include in their boxes, I mean, I don’t know any teenage boys ages 17 & I don’t think teenage boys of 17 want toys either, so this really is a challenge for me. So far I’ve come up with cologne,  caps, watches, sunglasses, perhaps some fashion jewellery, like a necklace, wallets. But none of these seem very original, so any suggestions would be appreciated??

Have you pledged your Santa Shoebox? If not, I’d really like to challenge each of you, to packing one box for a child in need this year.

Ahh, I did a teenage boy last year and got him all the unoriginal things lol. Was incredibly hard to find things as I have my own teenage boy but when I asked him what he would like, he said cash 🙂
My box included shorts/tee shirt/watch/cap/sunnies/ deo and roll-on/deck of cards/necklace/speed & sound magazine and odds and ends. This year Im being kinder to myself by going with a teenage girl- cant wait!
