I Aged 20 Years Today!!!

We headed out to Van Gaalen Cheese Farm today to enjoy a nice long lazy Sunday lunch with friends. It was a gorgeous Jo’burg winters day, crisp and clear and deliciously warm if you can find yourself a spot of sun. We opted to sit outside next to the kids play area so that Ava and her little friend Gia, could enjoy the afternoon playing in the play area and the feeding of the pigs and goats, what I hadn’t counted on was how this decision would cause me to scream that I got an instant sore throat, my heart raced that I wanted to faint and I’m sure I aged about 20 years in the space of one second!

The worst part is that I’m sure this is going to happen many more times in the years to come. Ava-Grace took a tumble, while running across the bridge of the jungle gym, her foot slipped off the side, she toppled over, head first towards the ground, the side ropes hooked her one foot and for an instant stopped her decent and thankfully, slowed the speed of her fall and then dropped her on her head on the grass. It was hideous! It happened so fast and yet all in slow motion, I only realized afterwards how loudly I had screamed as she started to topple!

Thankfully she was not hurt, thank goodness that rope caught her foot and slowed her fall. She screamed for about 20 seconds, then sat on my lap clinging to me for 5 minutes in shocked, pale silence and then was off as if nothing had happened, back up the jungle gym.

Ooh boy, my nerves are completely SHOT!

Shame man. I would also have gotten a big fright. Amazing how quickly they recover and then just want to go back!

Pleased that she is fine and that it was all over with little harm. As mum to a 4.5yr old boy I can see where you are coming from, but am really pleased that you are aware that something else will happen in the future.

Hope those nerves have sorted themselves out – a good glass of vino helps πŸ˜€

That is one cute hat!!! I am not lying to you now – the school phones me every three weeks to tell me Dyl has landed on his noggin falling off the jungle gym. I live in constant fear – as you know he cracked his skull falling off the bed at nine months. For all moms out there – the first sign of his cracked skull was not vomiting, not passing out- none of those ‘normal’ signs. The first sign was a spiking temp so be warned. But ya, jungle gyms are the work of a devil – shit, we as adults, don’t hang from death bars and yet uncoordinated toddlers are encouraged to do it!

Not quite there yet, but I hear you. Bellabloo is starting to pull herself up on to everything and then lets go! Doesn’t yet realise that she’s going to fall over. The time of bumps and bruises has begun, it seems!
