I Took The Challenge & I Challenge YOU!

October is Breast Cancer awareness month and Celeste did a fabulous post, not just raising awareness but challenging specific individuals, myself included to book a mammogram.

I took her challenge and got on the phone to my nearest clinic and made an appointment. People! I am having my 1st ever mammogram on the 2nd December!

In the spirit of not just raising awareness but also calling to action, I’d like to challenge the following Mom bloggers to follow suite and book themselves for a mammogram:

Lisa-Marie from To Love Bella

Sian from Waiting For A Miracle

Tanya from Dear Max

Roz from Two At Two

Elize from Where’s My Bun

In fact to all my girl friends both IRL and in the computer, consider yourselves challenged!

I have never been for a mammogram and if I’m honest I’m not even that nervous about it. How bad can it possibly be in comparison to what I’ve already been through in terms of medical procedures? I have inquired about it but every time my gynae has told me that because I was not 40 & with no history of cancer it was not necessary. But I’d still rather be safe than sorry.

I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately. One of my oldest friends lost her mom to breast cancer and just this week I heard the news of Giuliana Rancic’s breast cancer diagnosis and I’ve really felt called to do it since hearing that news. So Celeste’s challenge came at the perfect time!

Lets do this!

What a great challenge, I had my first mammogram this year too because there is a history of breast cancer on my mother’s side of the family – it was over and done with in less than 5 minutes and the worst part of it, getting the gloop off your boobs after the scan 🙂

Excellent challenge! I can tick mine off as I had one last year as part of our sdoption screening. Its really is a breeze. Nothing hectic at all. I jus freaked out a bit because I had to have the biopsy. But now at least I know that the lump I have is ok. I think they told me to come back in a couple of years… that is me done. tick!

Funny you should be posting this and extending a challenge to me…

I was sitting at the radiographers today getting my spine and pelvis xrayed – and was thinking about doing one…

OMG! I’m shit scared of it because I have HUGE boobs! My MIL said its much worse if your boobs are bigger. But…….since I’m being screened and tested from head to toe, I might as well include my boobies 😉

    Thanks for the push!

I had one on my husbands 50th birthday this year. Not my first one though. Don’t stress, they really aren’t that bad.

Sorry, just want to reply to Elize, that I actually think it is easier if you have big boobs, ans there is more to squash in. I too am well endowed, and it really is not bad, just uncomfortable.

Well done! I had my first one in March this year, and I was petrified. And in the end it was a whole lot of worry for nothing! Not painful at all, not even all that uncomfortable. As Celest said, I’d rather have a mammogram than a pap smear!
