Normal Transmission Will Resume Shortly

I’m back…. We spent last week in Ballito at our favourite little holiday flat right on the beach. It was fantastic! It’s the second time we’ve rented the same apartment and once again it did not disappoint. An older block of flats, right on the beach but super clean and well kitted with flat screen TV, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier and did I mention right on the beach?? Perfect accommodation for folks like us with small kids, nothing overly fancy where we had to worry about our children breaking anything but all the creature comforts from home available.

We had the most perfect weather, warm and balmy and on the beach every day, we (that includes even me) swam EVERY day at the beach. It was fabulous!

We hit the beach by 9am every day and spent the afternoons lazing on our balcony overlooking the ocean and soaking up the sun while we waited for Hannah to wake up from her midday naps.

Hannah was a star! When we visited Ballito last year, she’d only been with us for two months and was very unsettled. Our holiday was awful but this year it was as if we were travelling with a different child. She was so chilled in the car and loved the beach, although she didn’t like the swimming. She slept well and ate well and was just an absolute pleasure to travel with.

Ava is a water baby, she loved the holiday and cried when it was time to leave. Begging us to let her stay there forever and ever. All she wanted was to go home to fetch our dogs and then return to the beach to live. She didn’t sleep well, but generally she’s not a great traveller. She woke up every night and was quite whiny on the way down but she did love the quality time with us all together as a family and can’t wait to visit Ballito again.

I will say I thought I was going to lose my mind with all the bickering and fighting between Ava and Hannah a.k.a. Dennis The Menace. This kid… I’m not sure if it’s a second child thing, but she can totally hold her own in a fight with Ava, resorting to pushing, hitting and even scratching till she gets what she wants…. we’re going to have our work cut out for us when it comes to her!

I’m back at work today and to be honest, it’s been fantastic. A holiday is not really a break when you’re a parent, coming to work, that’s my holiday, my down time, getting to sit at my desk and not referee fights and listening to whining or wipe bums. Now I sound like I’m complaining and I guess I am but our holiday was awesome but still I’m glad to be back to normal.

Normal transmissions will resume shortly as soon as I’ve waded my way through all my work emails!
