The Link Between Breast Cancer & Deoderant

I’ve been concerned about the ingredients of my deodorant for the longest time and once again this became a cause of concern for me over October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

It’s often bothered me that we apply products to the skin of our armpits, so close to so many glands and breast tissue that contain potentially dangerous ingredients like aluminum.

Aluminum in deodorant & antiperspirant

Aluminium has been shown to be absorbed through intact skin from the application of antiperspirant under the arm (3). When skin is damaged, for example during shaving, six-fold more aluminium can be absorbed (4).

What bothered me the most, about all the studies and research that I have read into the possible links between deodorants and breast cancer, was that not one of them could conclusively state that traditional deodorants containing aluminum, did not cause cancer.

So I went on a mission to find an aluminum-free deodorant!

And I found these from Pure Beginnings.  I had always mistakenly assumed that Pure Beginnings was all about baby products, I did not realize that they made these eco-friendly roll on deodorants that are also aluminum free.

Unlike traditional deodorants and antiperspirants, that work by preventing the natural production of sweat, using ingredients like aluminum, these products work by targetting the bacteria that cause sweat to have an odor, so you will still sweat, but with no smell, while using these.

The Monsoon contains hints of rose, geranium, ylang-ylang, and patchouli so it has a soft and feminine fragrance guaranteed to have you feeling confident all day, while the Forrest has a distinctly minty flavor that is so wonderfully fresh. Both deodorants contain Sodium bicarbonate, which is a natural deodorizer.

Purchase your Pure Beginnings:

You can buy your Pure Beginnings Deodorant at leading health stores, as well as Dischem and directly online from Pure Beginnings

Have you ever considered the dangers of the ingredients in your deodorant?

Disclaimer – I was sent these deodorants to try after querying the information contained in a press release regarding the link between deodorant and breast cancer.

Thanks for this Sharon. I’m looking for something safer for my 10yr old, so I’m definitely going to pick this up for her now.

Thanks for sharing your find Sharon! I honestly just assumed Pure Beginnings only did a children’s range. Definitely something I’d like to try. Thank you!
